I admit it. I prefer creating blog posts and videos covering "more fun" topics within the realm of photo editing.
Color grading? ✅ Different ways to use the tone curve? ✅ Tasteful applications of the Orton Effect? ✅
But noise reduction? 🥱
And yet, understanding what noise is, how it occurs, and—most importantly—how to get rid of it is crucial because noise affects objective image quality. In other words, there is no universe in which having noise in your photo will enhance its quality. It'll only detract from it. That's why I created this guide to image noise.
Creating this noise guide also allowed me to answer the most common question I got on the topic: "Should I apply noise reduction to my RAW file at the beginning of the editing process?"
You'll find a new video in the guide explaining why applying noise reduction to your RAW file can be massively beneficial, especially if you're using an app like Topaz Photo AI, because it has a noise reduction model specifically trained for RAW files.
So get comfortable, dive into the noise reduction guide, and watch my latest editing video. Enjoy! |
