See How Lightroom Web Just Got Even Better for Editing and Sharing

Last week brought a series of updates across the Lightroom ecosystem, including Lightroom Desktop, Lightroom Mobile, Lightroom Classic, and Adobe Camera Raw. In previous posts, I covered what’s new in Lightroom Desktop 8.3 and Lightroom Mobile 10.3. In this article, we'll take a closer look at what’s been added to Lightroom Web — a surface that's growing into a seriously powerful tool for managing and editing your photos right inside a web browser.

If you haven't used Lightroom Web before, it’s available at lightroom.adobe.com. You simply log in with your Adobe ID, and you’ll have access to your full cloud library and many of Lightroom’s editing tools — all from any device with a browser and internet connection.

Let’s walk through the new features and improvements.

1. Landscape Masking

One of the standout features in this update is Landscape Masking. It uses AI to identify different parts of a landscape photo — like the sky, mountains, water, vegetation, and man-made/natural surfaces — and creates automatic masks for each area. This saves a huge amount of time compared to manually creating selections.

Here’s how it works:

  • Open a photo, go to the Masking panel, and click Landscape.

  • Lightroom Web will scan the image and identify different landscape components.

  • You can select which areas you want to adjust, and importantly, you can create separate masks for each element instead of one combined mask.

Tip: Landscape masking isn’t just for nature scenes. Try it with cityscapes, parks, and outdoor events to see what segments Lightroom detects.

2. Individual Portrait Quick Actions

Quick Actions, introduced in October 2024, have gotten a big improvement. Now, when Lightroom detects multiple people in a photo, you can edit each person individually.

  • Click the Magic Wand icon to access Quick Actions.

  • Lightroom will create thumbnails for each person detected.

  • You can apply enhancements like Whiten Teeth, Enhance Eyes, Smooth Hair, and more — per person.

This is a big step forward compared to earlier versions, where edits applied to everyone in the frame. Now you can fine-tune each individual, whether it’s a group portrait, family photo, or casual shot with friends.

3. Collaborative Album Sharing

Lightroom Web now supports improved collaborative photo sharing. You can create an album and allow others to add their photos to it — perfect for weddings, birthdays, graduations, or travel albums.

Here’s how it works:

  • Share an album and enable Anyone Can Add Photos.

  • Share a link or a QR code so others can easily upload.

  • Contributors must log in with a (free) Adobe ID to upload photos.

  • Profile photos from Adobe accounts are shown next to uploaded images for easy identification.

As the album owner, you can enable options like allowing downloads and interacting with likes and comments. It’s a simple, efficient way to collect photos from multiple people into a single album.

4. Before and After Compare View

Lightroom Web now includes a Compare View that lets you see your original photo side-by-side with the edited version.

  • Open an edited image in Detail view
  • Click the Compare icon in the left toolbar.

  • Long-click on the Compare icons to choose between Side-by-Side or Top-Bottom orientation.

Compare View makes it much easier to appreciate your editing adjustments — from subtle corrections to dramatic transformations.

5. Copy and Paste Edit Settings

You can now copy and paste edits between photos in Lightroom Web.

  • Open a photo in Edit mode, click the ellipsis (…) menu, and choose Copy Edit Settings.

  • You can choose to copy everything, only modified settings, or select specific edits.

  • Finally, open another photo in Edit mode, click the ellipsis, and Paste Edit Settings.

This is especially handy when you want to apply consistent looks across a series of similar photos without having to manually re-create each adjustment.

Wrapping It Up

Lightroom Web continues to evolve into a fully capable editing environment. With powerful new tools like Landscape Masking, individual portrait edits, collaborative albums, Compare View, and copy-paste edits, it’s an excellent option whether you're working on a Chromebook, borrowing a friend's computer, or just want the convenience of editing in a browser. If you already subscribe to the Lightroom or Lightroom Mobile plan, you have access to Lightroom Web — it's definitely worth exploring if you haven’t already.
